10 Amazing Rock Songs That Are Ridiculously Short

8. In The End - Green Day

Ever since the days of Dookie, Green Day have been dealing with rumors of selling out from their original punk fanbase. And that's not an unfounded fear to have either, seeing how the band signed with a major label and have moved far away from traditional punk rock in recent years on albums like American Idiot. On their major label debut though, they still understood the 'get in/get out' nature of punk for the back half of Dookie.

Throughout the entire second side of the record, you get a speed round of songs each clocking in at just under 2 minutes, from the pop joy Emenius Sleepus to Billie Joe Armstrong addressing his sexuality on Coming Clean. Of all these bite sized songs, In the End is probably the closest to traditional punk rock, as Billie gets more and more agitated in the song about someone who keeps making bad decisions.

And it appears that Billie knows this feeling a little too well, being originally written about his mother having multiple different boyfriends that didn't last after a few months. Even for as short as this song is though, you do have a lot of memorable moments, like the entire band dropping out when Billie says "SO" or the bridge in the middle of the tune that builds the perfect tension before the final chorus. Green Day may still have been young kids when Dookie was coming out, but their construction of pop tunes sounds like it's coming from a band twice their age.
