10 Amazing Rock Songs That Are Ridiculously Short

6. Lukin - Pearl Jam

The entire success story of Pearl Jam seemed to be legitimately terrifying for Eddie Vedder. He had always envisioned staying anonymous and having a gradual rise to the top of the charts in the vein of R.E.M., only to find himself on the cover of TIME magazine a few years after making the band's first record. Fame was not treating him well, and Lukin is almost a primal scream of anger about his own lifestyle.

While most of No Code is a weird stylistic turn for Pearl Jam, Lukin is the kind of punky freakout that we were used to from songs like Go, only with an added sense of fear put into the mix. Clocking in at just over a minute, this is about a real life stalker that Vedder had to deal with around this time, who had claimed that he was the father of her child and even rammed her car into Vedder's wall that he had built to guard the side of his house.

For most of this song, this is him talking about his friend Lukin, who gave him a safe house where he could chill out and protect his family if the stalker got too out of control. Since the last line talks about this person purchasing a gun though, Eddie had good reason to be afraid of his grunge rock god status.
