10 Amazing Rock Songs That Are Ridiculously Short

4. Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want - The Smiths

One of the biggest hurdles that you have with a short song is not being able to get your point across. You only have so much time to actually say something, so how are you supposed to make an audience actually feel your pain with such a short timeframe? Well, if you have that kind of emotion built into your bones like Morrissey, it doesn't take long for you to open your heart.

Though this track was never released on a Smiths album, it has become one of their most celebrated songs, being miles ahead of the sounds of emo all the way back in the '80s. As much as some of these lyrics could have come off as corny from any other singer, Morrissey really sells every word of this song, having the same desperation in his voice to be emotionally satisfied, almost trembling at every other word.

In fact, this is probably a good indication of what the band's trademark sound was like for any new fans. Before you jump into something like the Queen is Dead, this is the kind of gothic pop that the Smiths were always known for delivering, from Johnny Marr's gentle strumming in the background to Morrissey being on the verge of tears on a record. Since this was also the era when hair metal was about to kick in, this gave us all a good lesson as to what you could tackle in a rock song. There was too much macho posturing going on, and rockers had to be reminded that it's okay to wear your heart on your sleeve every now and again.
