10 Amazing Songs That Artists Hate
4. Stairway To Heaven - Led Zeppelin
There's pretty much a law that any fan of rock music has to experience Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin at least once. Spanning over 8 minutes, this one epic track takes you on a journey with sound, as Jimmy Page's classic guitar opening blossoms into one of the most glorious feats of musicianship ever heard in the '70s. With all of its classic status though, the biggest detractor of Zeppelin's greatest track is actually the one behind the mic.
As opposed to singing its praises left and right, Robert Plant has gone on record as not being the biggest fan of Stairway, thinking that it's a bit too overblown for his taste. This eventually came back to bite him when Stairway became one of the greatest songs Zep ever had, with most people clamoring to hear it whenever they took to the road. It seems that Plant is the only one who feels this way though, with Jimmy Page considering it one of the greatest musical pieces the band had ever made.
It's not like Plant doesn't admire the song's power, as he has gone on record saying that he was impressed with how quickly he wrote the lyrics. Then again, when something ends up coming to you that fast, it's sometimes hard to see the genius that you're working with.
