10 Amazing Songs That Never Made It Onto A Studio Album
1. Jumpin Jack Flash - Rolling Stones
For all of the Flower Power that may have been going around the '60s, you can't forget that this was also a fairly dark time for rock and roll. While the sounds of the British Invasion may have started to take over the world, the horrors going on in Vietnam were still on the rise and acts like the Doors were giving us a sharp look at what the other side of the peace and love movement had to offer. Rock was starting to get dangerous, and it makes sense that the first bad boys of the British Invasion threw their hat into the ring as well.
While Jumpin Jack Flash is still rooted in the blues most of the time, there's something dirty going on in this song from the first few seconds of the track. Opening with the distorted sounds of an acoustic guitar, the entire track feels like it's about to fall apart at any minute, before Mick Jagger comes in with lyrics about being a misfit caught in a crossfire hurricane.
Even if the raw sounds of this track may still be rock and roll, this is the kind of music that sent some parents into a frenzy, with later songs like Street Fighting Man being banned from the radio for fear that they would start riots in the streets because of how chaotic they sounded. Good rock and roll always has a little bit of anarchy in it though, and who's to say that you can't have a little bit of fun when raising hell like this?
