10 Amazing Songs That Never Made It Onto A Studio Album
5. My December - Linkin Park
The first era of Linkin Park's career wasn't all that concerned with the more softer side of rock and roll. If you look at the more somber tracks on Hybrid Theory like Crawling and In the End, they're still defined by the loud guitars and the existential angst that comes with nu metal, knowing that whatever they take is either going to hurt them or not going to matter in the long run. It can be a lot to take in, so how the hell was one of their greatest ballads relegated to a bonus track?
While the original 12 song version of Hybrid Theory has gone down in history, My December was included with a couple of bonus tracks for certain editions of the album. As much as the band may have made the right call by getting their record to go Diamond, adding this song onto the track listing might have been able to actually push the album that much further.
Since the final track Pushing Me Away has that same kind of angst, the reflective tone in Chester Bennington's voice over these soft pianos would have brought the album to a much more somber close, as he reflects on the anger and is left with the cold feeling that comes with winter. Songs like Breaking the Habit off of Meteora have definitely tapped into this kind of turmoil a lot better, but even when making their first steps into the big time, Linkin Park had a lot more layers than almost any one of their nu metal peers.
