10 Amazing Songs That Will Make You Love Britpop
9. Tattva - Kula Shaker
Regardless of which band you were into at the time, the Britpop craze always felt like the madness of the '60s managed to resurface for just a little bit. This wasn't just for the heavyhitters either, with almost every band bringing the sounds of rock and roll back into the clubs just like the Beatles and the Stones did back in the day. That included all of the '60s though, and we got a healthy dose of psychedelia once Kula Shaker hit their stride.
Being inspired by the jam bands from back in the day like the Grateful Dead, Tattva is the exact kind of song that you'd expect out of the spaced out side of Britpop, adopting an almost Eastern sounding drone to the entire song. This wasn't just a gimmick either, with the title being taken from a Hindu philosophy about being at one or at peace, only with a roaring guitar in the back of the room as well.
That was only a drop in the bucket for what was in store with the rest of the record, taking the bits and pieces of the old guard of rock and updating it for the next decade on Hey Dude or Grateful When You're Dead. Though there was that British Invasion sensibility in most of Britpop, this is the clearest indication that the '90s were just the '60s upside down.
