10 Amazing Songs Written In 30 Minutes Or Less
3. Oasis – Supersonic
Supersonic was the debut single released by the Manchester phenoms and it is synonymous with the band’s identity in more ways than one.
It is a cool, swaggering banger of a track that doesn’t make much sense lyrically, but it doesn’t need to – it just makes you feel, well, supersonic. Noel Gallagher, famous for writing most of his best songs in flurries of inspiration, recalls his mindset going into the studio in December 1993:
“I remember being off my nut and going into the back room and setting the goal of writing a song in 10 minutes – that was Supersonic.”
He also added that seeing tens of thousands of fans singing every word of a song he wrote at 3am was an unbelievable experience. Oasis were a band famous for improvisation, flair, and unpredictability (and brotherly love, of course), so they were at their absolute best when they were completely in the moment and not overthinking it.
That is why Supersonic works so well and that’s why it exploded onto the scene the moment it came out. It is perhaps the greatest – and certainly the earliest – example of Oasis understanding their identity, embracing it, and wearing it unapologetically on their sleeve. They really can’t be no one else.
