It's a pretty well-known fact that Gerard is friends with famous film-maker Kevin Smith, who's more popular films include Clerks, Mallrats and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. Way has appeared with Smith quite a few times over the years, from podcast features to television interviews, the two are clearly fans of each other's work.

Flash forward to 2014, then, and the release of Smith's horror comedy Tusk. The film is based on an incredibly strange story told on Smith's podcast, involving a man who goes missing and is subsequently imprisoned and surgically transformed into a walrus. Smith asked Way to record Scottish folk song The Water Is Wide (also titled O Waly, Waly) for the film, a haunting song about love and a great close to the movie. According to Smith, Gerard turned The Water Is Wide into "this achingly beautiful, haunting declaration of undying, hopeless love." That being said, I'm absolutely convinced Smith only wanted the song in the film because Waly sounds like Walrus.
