10 Artists That Disowned Their Own Songs

5. Roll With It - Oasis

You’re probably not going to find a bigger fan of Noel Gallagher’s music than Noel Gallagher himself. Before Oasis even had a proper record to hit the store shelves, Noel was already christening himself a member of the best band in the world, and it seemed that the media tended to agree as they notched up one hit after another. In between their hot streak though, the Battle of Britpop started with one of Noel’s most uninspired songs.

That’s not just your humble author talking…that’s Noel himself. When he looks back on Roll With It these days, Noel really only has to say that it was just a generic pop song that just happened to have that staying power to become one of the major singles. Though the song does have its fair share of highlights, all Noel talks about is how much it felt like a rush job, only mentioning the recording process of the song when talking about it for the retrospective of What’s the Story Morning Glory.

Years later when Noel was being asked about the Battle of Britpop, he just thought that it was a shame that both Roll With It and Country House were the deciding factors for Oasis and Blur, thinking that it would be a much more fair fight if there was a competition between something like Supersonic and Girls and Boys respectively. If anything, this is more just a case of not having to take Oasis’ music that seriously. Since Noel doesn’t think that much of it, there’s no reason for us to read too much into it either.
