10 Artists That Ended Their Career With One Album
1. Let It Be - The Beatles
After the Beatles had made their landmark double album The White Album, there was no way they were getting back on the same page. Being creatively exhausted and growing more and more agitated, they tried to go back to basics for a project entitled Get Back before scrapping it to make their masterpiece Abbey Road. That should have been where the story ended, but Let It Be had to go through a pretty strange shelf life before finally getting to the fans.
Being composed of most of the songs the band were working on during the Get Back project, this feels like it was made more out of obligation than anything else, with superproducer Phil Spector coming in to make something out of the whole thing. And his trademark touch has been a point of contention for the band for years, from John Lennon saying that he made a pretty decent job out of it to Paul McCartney becoming furious that Spector hijacked the project and put different pieces onto the songs that he had no right to do.
All the while, you also had Allen Klein trying to “manage” the group and just pitting them against one another, looking to get more money out of the squabbling than actually steering them in the right direction. While it’s nice to have some of the amazing singles like Let It Be and The Long and Winding Road on a proper album, if the band had had their way, their career would have probably ended up after the final seconds of Abbey Road.
