10 Artists That Will Not Defend Their Own Albums

6. Music from the Elder - KISS

No rock fan that was picking up a KISS album really had to think too much about what was inside. From the horrifying face paint to the meat and potatoes riffs, this was just your standard hard rock band that seemed to have spawned out of a comic book, with songs that dealt with the superpowers of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. When the glow of the masked freaks started to fade though, someone got the bright idea that KISS should return to the spotlight by getting serious.

In one of the more inspired failures on this list, the band enlisted Bob Ezrin to help paint their "masterpiece" with Music From the Elder, which would follow a conceptual theme surrounding one man's quest as the chosen one. If you think that premise is a little flimsy, it's an absolute mess in practice, with decent songs like a World Without Heroes trying to shoehorn in different storylines that none of the band are really equipped to tackle.

While most of the band is content to just wipe their hands of this project now, Ace Frehley wasn't on board from the beginning, not bothering to show up to the studio to work on it and having most of his songs literally phoned in when he delivered the master tapes to the rest of the band with his guitar tracks. By the time it actually came out, no one seemed to care either, with the songs not even being in the correct order to follow the story. KISS is meant to be larger than life, but as far as concepts are concerned, please just stick to what you know.
