Could the number one spot go to anyone else?
Michael Jackson is basically the man who reinvented the music video time after time again. Ever since the launch of his solo career, Jackson experimented with what the very definition of a music video was. He wanted to tell epic stories , and that came to a height with the release of 'Thriller' in 1983 - a 13-minute zombie fest paying homage to the horror genre (most notably 'An American Werewolf in London'), and which featured the iconic zombie dance move.
Since then, the artist went from strength to strength with the release of his videos, which became just as anticipated as his new music. The rest of the 80s displayed his skills on the dancefloor in new and inventive ways ('Smooth Criminal', 'Bad' and 'The Way You Make Me Feel' to name a few), while Jackson notoriously started displaying political and eco messages in some of his later efforts. 'Black Or White, 'Heal The World' and 'Earth Song' are all prime examples that have proved controversial, yet have been hugely successful.
No artist has ever had such an inconic catalogue of music videos as Michael Jackson, and likely no-one will again.
