9. David Bowie
British Lion Films
Current Odds: 20-1 The most obvious time to book the Dame would have been for last year's or even this year's festival, when Bowiemania was still back at fever pitch. The release of The Next Day in 2013 caught a lot of people out, and although the headliners had already been booked, a slot at Glasto 2014 would have allowed him to join Arcade Fire on stage for 'Reflektor', as well as keeping interest alive in his own latest album. Unless, of course, The Next Day is no longer his latest album by 2015... After the initial shock and delight of the new release had died down last year, a lot of commentators speculated over whether this was the start of a fully-fledged comeback for Bowie, or just a final hurrah. Robert Fripp appeared to suggest that the Thin White Duke had a lot more in his locker yet to come, a claim borne out by the release of a special edition containing extra tracks. It is impossible to state clearly what Bowie's intentions are likely to be, given his fully-justified reputation as one of the most unpredictable and contrary characters in rock. The lack of new material would not necessarily be the death knell for rumours of Bowie at Glastonbury; the man has written some of the greatest songs in the history of recorded music and has a back catalogue that is surely the envy of all but Paul McCartney - frankly, a new album would be the cherry on the cake. There is still a lot of mileage in the rumours, though a lot depends on both his health and inclination.
