10 Awesome Openings In Terrible Songs
3. Where The Streets Have No Name - U2)
Say what you will about Bono and the Edge but they sure do know how to write an anthem. So much so, that U2 is that band that nobody admits to liking yet secretly listens to in their car, the shower, or anywhere else where they might be alone.
Where The Streets Have No Name is probably up there with one of their most well-known tracks, mostly because it opens their most well-known and critically acclaimed album, The Joshua Tree. The intro for the song is the Edge at his best, bashing out a hook-like its nobody business. Sadly, such an epic introduction is wasted on what can only be described as Bono's ego.
Love him or hate him (let's face it most people hate him) Bono's vocals are about as wanted as the coronavirus. One second you are enjoying a nice piece of melodic madness only to be rudely interrupted by Bono's verbal vomit. The song might have lyrics worth listening to, after all, it does touch on notions of religion, class, and identity, but when it's spewing from Bono's mouth it just doesn't seem genuine.
