10 Awesome Rock Bands With One Terrible Album

4. The Final Cut - Pink Floyd (1983)

The Final Cut could not have been more aptly named: It was the final Floyd album to feature Roger Waters; and half the tracks could have used a trim. During the early '80s the band was falling apart. Waters and David Gilmour no longer had a working relationship.

Waters was keen to push another concept album, but kept changing his mind about the direction. Originally, the record was meant to expand on the story of The Wall. Instead, Waters changed tack, hoping to use the album to berate Margaret Thatchers policies, both at home and abroad. David Gilmour wasn't convinced by the whole idea, which was reflected by his lack of input. The result was an album of confused ideas and concepts, unceremoniously dovetailed together. The record attempted to capture they grandiosity of The Wall but only came-off as a pale imitation. Indeed, many of the tracks used recycled material, deemed not good enough to be included on The Wall.

It was saturated with preachy Jesus-talk, and on-the-nose political sentiment. Instead of coming across as insightful, the lyrics felt like the half-baked notions of a student who has just discovered marijuana.
