10 Bad Closing Songs On Great Rock Music Albums

1. Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me - Vitalogy (Pearl Jam)

Grunge frontrunners Pearl Jam stepped away from the genre that made them famous for their third album Vitalogy.

In an effort to diversify their sound, the band recorded an album that took inspiration from many different places. Whilst some people didn't like this change, others praised the group for mixing things up and enjoyed the wider range of music available.

Almost unanimous though was the disdain felt for the last song on the record.

Hey Foxymophandlemama, That's Me, also known as Stupid Mop, is a sound collage. Straight away, you should know whether or not this will be your bag.

Made using actual recordings of real-life psychiatric patients, Stupid Mop is eerie and unsettling. It's also completely devoid of any sort of musical structure and it goes on for seven-and-a-half minutes.

That is Revolution 9 levels of precocious.

Avant Garde music is divisive by its very nature and Pearl Jam knew the risks when they decided to make this track.

It couldn't have really gone anywhere else on the rest of the album, but that doesn't mean it doesn't end what is otherwise a great record on a strange and confusing note.
