10 Bad Closing Songs On Great Rock Music Albums

8. On With The Show -Their Satanic Majesties Request (The Rolling Stones)

In the mid-to-late 60s, psychedelic rock was all the rage.

Bands like The Byrds, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and The Grateful Dead all played their part in making the genre popular, but many would agree that it hit its zenith with the release of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in May 1967.

Seven months later, The Rolling Stones decided to arrive late to the party.

Their Satanic Majesties Request was labelled at the time as a poor man's Pepper, although it has received some critical reappraisal in recent years.

Songs like She's a Rainbow and In Another Land stand out as good songs on their own, but the same cannot be said for the one chosen to bring proceedings to a close.

On with the Show is where the Pepper similarities are the strongest. With a similar carnival sound, it only serves the highlight the vast difference in quality between the two projects.

Whilst the rest of the record can be enjoyed as its own thing, On with the Show is just too Beatlesy for its own good.

Also, the final track on Pepper is A Day in the Life. How was anything ever going to compete with that?
