10 Bafflingly Terrible Songs That Were Somehow Incredibly Successful

9. Rebecca Black €“- Friday

The surge in popularity of Rebecca Black's Friday €“ released in 2011 €“ was the moment when it became incredibly apparent that not only could the internet obsess over something silly, they could also make that silly something's creator a whole lot of money.

Even though the only thing that made the song popular was how terrible it was, that didn't stop people listening to Friday on YouTube in droves, with the music video reaching more than thirty million views within a year of its initial upload.

When it was released as a downloadable single, the song cropped up on charts all over the world, selling over one million copies (a huge number in itself, but nothing when compared to the sheer amount of times its been viewed and streamed). Since then it has been covered by the cast of Glee, Nick Jonas, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber (to name just a few).
