10 Band Members That Overshadowed The Singer

6. Dimebag Darrell - Pantera

Every single song that Pantera released in the '90s seemed to hit you like a kick in the face. As soon as you heard the first few seconds of the song, you were ready for war and expecting your eardrums to get a serious beatdown until the song was over. And Phil Anselmo made for the perfect voice for that heaviness, except with Dimebag's muscle leading everything from behind.

When everyone was jumping on the grunge bandwagon, the tone of Dime's solos and riffs are what kept metal alive throughout the alternative era of rock music. This wasn't just some tried and true metal either, since Dime was known to make outlandish solos like on Domination and Floods. They might not be on the same level of Joe Satriani or anything, but trying to match his solos on the first few records is enough for any other guitarist to break their hand.

The real strength behind Dime was always the riffs though, which had just the right amount of swing to make you want to groove to it. It was never poppy or anything, but the way that he locked in with his brother Vinnie Paul behind the kit felt like you were getting a ZZ Top song if it were being played from the bowels of Hell. If you need any further proof, just listen to ending of Cemetery Gates. Phil's voice and Dime's guitar are trying to outplay each other, and the guitar is winning.
