10 Band Members That Overshadowed The Singer

5. Flea - Red Hot Chili Peppers

For most of the Chili Peppers' glory period, subtlety was never something that they claimed to have all that often. These are the same guys who would often come out onstage with only socks around their delicate areas, so there was always a bit of humor in every part of their show. There was also mountains of energy, and that was coming from the madman sitting behind the four string.

Though the bass player is normally known as the quiet one in most groups, Flea was looking to make his presence known from day one, almost approaching the bass much like a lead guitarist would, going on long solo runs like the intro to Around the World. While it may have been hard to figure out what Anthony Kiedis was getting at a lot of the time, it didn't matter when you saw Flea go off, making for some intense jams that sounded like if Sly and the Family Stone woke up one day and decided to play punk rock.

Sometimes that kind of energy almost became too much for Flea's body to even handle, including one time when he slapped his bass so hard during a show that he ended up having a hole through his finger afterwards. Even when the band started to mellow out a little bit in their post tube sock years, Flea isn't afraid to still wow us every time he takes to the stage.
