10 Bands From The 2000s You've Definitely Forgotten

6. The Bravery

The Bravery are one of those bands whose influences start at about 1980 and end at around 1987. Their sound is wrapped around that decade like Japanese knotweed.

All black attire, heavy noir eye makeup and the sort of haircuts that your dad rocked back when he was trying to get off with girls. With a lead singer who was trying to be a bit like Morrissey and these tight little keyboard twinkling’s throughout their songs, The Bravery’s morose and monotone sound brought them some nice space on the decade’s musical platform.

They were a poor man’s Interpol, a charlatan’s The National. But they did manage to prolong their shelf life with a video that pre-dates OK GO’s efforts with the impressive, if heavily cut and edited, domino effect.

Fuelled by a seemingly mechanical energy that stuck rigorously to the New Wave philosophy of moody quiffs and electro riffs all played with the cocky zeal only an American could possess and you get The Bravery, a band of bravado and what could’ve beens.

Sometime Brummie with a love for tea, tequila and football teams that don't win a lot of games. Still don't really understand apostrophes.
