10 Bands That Became One Album Wonders
1. The Stone Roses
For a brief period in 1994, the rock landscape seemed to be a virtual wasteland for good music. After the death of Kurt Cobain left a void in the hearts of millions of fans, most alt-rockers could only hang onto their old records like life rafts while waiting for the next trend to come sweeping in. Though Britpop offered a healthy alternative to the dour and depressing music, it would not have existed as it is today if it weren't for the Stone Roses' debut.
Being a descendant of the Mad-chester scene happening in the late '80s, a lot of the Roses' discography seemed to be an eclectic blend of dance music and the classic sounds of '60s rock and roll, which became the darling of college rock radio at the time. Though they ended up sharing some radio play time with R.E.M. in certain markets with songs like I Wanna be Adored, the long wait for the next album became too strenuous for them to bare.
By the time Second Coming did come out, the Britpop train had long since left the Roses in the dust, leaving bands like Blur, Oasis, and Pulp picking up where they had left off. Even with the massive amount of buzz they generated as an indie band, it's a shame that the Roses were never quite able to see it through as Britpop's leaders.
