10 Bands That Destroyed Their Careers
2. Creed
If you're intending to have your band dissolve in on itself, there are always a few options you can go down. Outside of the more bitter breakups and losing a band member on tour, there's also the age-old trope of members just getting fed up and wanting to do other things outside of their main outfit. Or in Creed's case, just get the one guy out of the band.
Over the course of the late '90s, it's almost impressive how short a time it took for Creed to become a punchline, becoming the lite version of Pearl Jam right at the start of the '00s. While the sound of songs like With Arms Wide Open did have a few layers of cheese to them, it wasn't until Weathered that the sh*t really hit the fan, with Scott Stapp casually getting drunk on tour and the band eventually getting sued for what fans claimed was a half-assed performance.
Though the rest of the decade saw Creed start to spiral, it just looks that much worse when Alter Bridge was launched a few years later, with all of the original members of Creed sans Stapp put together with the vocal prowess of Myles Kennedy. Since Alter Bridge have become one of the biggest names in rock over the past few years, it's hard to think of Mark Tremonti clamoring to get back on stage with Stapp any time soon.
