10 Bands That Everyone Loves To Hate

3. U2

There's no denying that every member of U2 has talent. Throughout the '80s, the band made their way to the top of the rock world with albums like the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby, showing Bono to be one of the best frontmen in rock and the Edge as the next mad scientist behind a guitar effects pedal. The band definitely have more than their share of classics, but it starts getting a little complicated once Bono stops singing.

Ever since they've reached the top, U2 have always used their platform to promote charity organizations and speak at length about the political discord of the times they live in. While it's anyone's right to say what they want when the mic's in their hand, Bono has come off less as an ambassador for a good cause and more like a preacher lecturing you about how you should live your life.

If you're looking for any indication where things go sour, check out Rattle and Hum, where Bono stops in the middle of the song to talk politics, after which he chastises the audience for not being as enthused about the cause as he is. The world at large may in fact be a better place because of U2, but in terms of their political leanings, the man in the sunglasses just needs to know when to tone it down.
