10 Bands That Everyone Loves To Hate
2. Nickelback
Out of all the bands known for their mass hatred, Nickelback is pretty much everyone's first punching bag.
For over two decades, these guys have turned themselves into industry giants by catering to the most bottom-of-the-barrel rock riffs of the entire genre. Though they've definitely had a few stray good tunes here and there, the amount of crap they you have to crawl through to get there is much too big for most rockers to attempt.
Whether you're looking at songs like "Photograph" or "How You Remind Me," you can tell the band is trying their hand at blending the hard rock of Metallica with the angst of the grunge movement, alongside a taste of Southern rock and metal sprinkled in for good measure.
While the instrumentation might be serviceable at best, the fact that Chad Kroeger has not really made any progress from his butt rock snarl has left rockers disheartened for years. Along with the more streamlined songwriting approach, Kroeger has even admitted to taking influence from hit songs of the past strictly to get his music on the radio.
Any rocker can forgive a couple of lousy songs, but when you spend years writing songs just to get a profit, even the most seasoned rockers can smell the pretentiousness.
