10 Bands That Got Over Losing A Lead Singer

9. Fleetwood Mac

When looking back at the great bands of the British Blues Boom, you have to give due credit to the rhythm section of Fleetwood Mac. Ever since the '60s, both Mick Fleetwood and John McVie have been one of the longest running rhythm sections in rock and roll, taking on every genre imaginable along the way. Granted, that doesn't mean the music has sounded the same when you're dropping members like flies.

Originally coming to fruition with legendary blues guitarist Peter Green, the decision to sever ties with him left the entire band in limbo for a little while. Although having a temporary fill in with Bob Welch, his departure soon after left the entire band unsure of their next direction. The final decision: why the hell stop at one singer when you can have some of the greatest songwriters in the world?

Drafting in the duo of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, their folk-tinged songwriting was a welcome change of pace from the raw blues beginnings, which played off perfectly against the raspier tone of John's wife Christine behind the keyboards. Across albums like Rumours and Tusk, Fleetwood Mac became a powerhouse hit making institution, albeit with a few personality hiccups along the way. A heavy burden to carry...but when you can say you're the band behind a song like Dreams, it's pretty much worth it.
