10 Bands That Only Ever Released One Good Album
4. Never Mind The !*$%, Here's The Sex Pistols - Sex Pistols (1977)
Johnny Rotten has never quite come down from the wave of this album. Crashing with all the ferocity of a shark infested tsunami, it hit the UK with an impact that was felt around the world. Rotten has never became tired of harking on about its significance... , but his tiresome self-aggrandising, is indicative of what made The Sex Pistols so appealing.
The band's raucous behaviour and shameless bravado, both on stage and off, garnered them significant press coverage. They embodied a feeling of resentment that many felt in the UK during the late '70s. They were tired of the inequality that gripped Britain, this sentiment became the band's calling card, and people were more than willing to pick up the phone.
The anti-monarchy single, God Save The Queen, was banned from almost every major radio station; but the single, and subsequent album, flew off the shelves faster than Sid Vicious could spit at an audience member.
The success of The Sex Pistols was immortalised by their rapid decline into chaos. After the popularity of their debut, the band departed to take America by storm, but their dynamic was in tatters. Drummer, Paul Cook and guitarist, Steve Jones, isolated themselves from their fellow band mates; Vicious was constantly strung out and getting into punch ups, and Rotten was sick of it all. The disastrous tour marked the end of the group who split in '78.
