10 Bands That Were Haunted While Recording
1. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - Black Sabbath
There's a good chance that most of the members of Black Sabbath have been on good terms with the spirits of the underworld. After Geezer Butler wrote their titular track about a figure in black who came to him one night, the spooky sounds of the occult have always been engrained in most of Sabbath's material, with Ozzy giving a voice to the sounds of Hell. When they started to lose their way though, they may have just needed some help from those evil spirits.
When the band were working on Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Tony Iommi originally came to the studio with virtually nothing. This was a big problem too, with Iommi being the main leader of every single song and providing one sinister riff after another on the last few records. In an attempt to get a change of scenery, Sabbath ventured into a haunted mansion to cut their next project, with the groundskeeper even alluding to the ghosts that were still roaming the grounds.
Although Tony Iommi has memories of a figure walking around the grounds in a cloak, Bill Ward was not as thrilled by the ghosts, claiming to sleep with a knife on the other side of his pillow to protect him if he had some unexpected visits. This is the kind of scenario that feels like it's ripped straight out of a horror movie, but once Tony Iommi got the riff behind the title track, everything seemed to roll easy afterwards.
