10 Bands That Were Haunted While Recording
2. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance
The members of My Chemical Romance are certainly no strangers to the darker side of the music scene. If you go back and listen to the songs off of Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, there's a lot more than just heartache on that record, with songs that talk about everything from murder to seeing the ghosts of your loved ones fade away before your eyes. So when you have an entire album that's centered around the concept of dying, why not rent a haunted studio to get the job done?
Working out of the Paramour Mansion for the Black Parade, the guys had talked about a few terrifying incidents that took place when they were tracking the record, including different spirits lurking in the shadows and giving some of them insomnia because of their inability to fall asleep after recording wrapped. It ended up getting so bad that Mikey Way eventually checked out of his room early in the session, electing to come back only when needed to work.
Although the record has its own story to tell, you do get a little piece of what the kind of terror was like in there on the song Sleep. While the opening recording works as a recounting of the Patient's night, what you're hearing is an actual recording of Gerard talking about the night terrors that kept happening to him, including on where he felt like someone was trying to suffocate him. The Black Parade was already about some pretty morbid subjects, but it looked like the spirits on the grounds were ready to get in on the fun as well.
