10 Bands Who Quit Music At The Peak Of Their Success
8. Glamour Of The Kill
Certainly not the most well-known band to feature on this list, Glamour of the Kill surely holds the record for worst timed break-up in rock music history. Taking their name from He Is Legend lyrics, Glamour of the Kill formed in 2007 and started kicking up dust across the British scene almost immediately.
Blending elements of post-hardcore with a cutting edge heavy metal perspective, Glamour of the Kill definitely didn’t struggle when it came to encapsulating the minds and love of a booming 2010’s underground fanbase. In 2011, they released their debut album, ‘The Summoning’, to great critical reception and followed it up with ‘Savages’ in 2013. Both of these albums were hugely successful for British underground metal releases and the wheels of seemingly unstoppable momentum began to turn.
Overnight, Glamour of the Kill had gone from future hopefuls to being called the next Bullet For My Valentine. The extent of their rise was so extreme, that their headline tour was advertised on the main stage of Download Festival in 2015, between sets from the likes of Faith No More and Motley Crue. Then out of nowhere, the band broke up in July 2015 saying they had no plans to ‘write, record or tour’ in future.
GOTK attempted to mount a comeback in 2018 but the damage had already been done. Their return shows received lukewarm fan reception and plans to record a new album were soon abandoned.
