10 Bands Who Quit Music At The Peak Of Their Success

7. Fall Out Boy

A surprisingly large number of people have completely forgotten about this, but Fall Out Boy actually broke up in 2009. It seems hard to believe now considering the fact they soon bounced back and maintain a rigorous touring schedule to this day, though their ill-timed hiatus certainly dented the momentum.

The Illinois based pop rock group have been around since 2001, and underwent a number of quickfire personnel changes in their early years. Once they settled on a permanent line-up in 2003, they swiftly began work on their debut record, ‘Take This to Your Grave’. The album performed badly in the grand scheme of things, barely scraping a top 100 position in the UK albums chart and reaching 140 in the US billboard chart. Everything changed in 2005 mind, when ‘From Under the Cork Tree’ suddenly threw the band into the spotlight, thanks to lead single ‘Sugar, We’re Goin Down’.

Everything seemed to be going swimmingly for the emo infused pop rock group as the hits kept flowing, but they abruptly announced a hiatus in 2009 following the performance of the group’s fourth album, ‘Folie à Deux’. Despite reaching the top ten in the USA, Canada and Japan, ‘Folie à Deux’ prompted radio silence from the band which would last until 2013.

Since returning, Fall Out Boy have released three studio albums, all of which peaked at number two in the UK albums charts. To this day, the band have never had a UK number one album despite having four in the United States.
