10 Best Acoustic Metal Songs
8. The Messenger - Linkin Park
A Thousand Suns by Linkin Park may be one of the most misunderstood albums of the modern age.
While the blend of electronic noise and nu metal didn't really sit well with the die hard fans, this approach turned into a rallying cry for the modern age, with bands like 21 Pilots adopting more of the artificial style on their later releases. Even if you wanted nothing to do with the beep-boops you heard on this record, the final track leaves nothing to the imagination.
After being thrown right into the anarchy of post-nuclear war on the Catalyst, The Messenger is where everything comes to its world-worn conclusion. Whereas other tracks tended to have fifteen different production styles within the span of a single song, this is just Chester with an acoustic guitar, as he tries to scrape together what remains of his soul after the trauma of the rest of the record.
This track also hits especially close to home after Chester's passing, with lines like "remember you're loved and you always will be" tearing most fans' hearts to pieces when the singer was found dead by suicide in 2017. This might not be the most satisfying conclusion to the group's electronic opus, and yet the frayed sanity from Bennington doesn't seem to fit anywhere except the end.
