8. Electric Six - Mustang
Probably the most obscure and often forgotten about band on this list (with the exception of the enduring Gay Bar and Danger! High Voltage), but I am an advocate for Electric Six's long-overlooked greatness and so had to include them. They have managed to release an album a year every year since 2005 (last year's effort was a live album, but I think that's fair enough!) which is particularly impressive since the quality of songs rarely drops and lead singer Dick Valentine has also released two solo acoustic albums in the last two years. Their music is often genre-bending, featuring a mixture of rock, disco, synth pop and whatever else seems to fit; this means we can only guess at exactly what Mustang will sound like, but the band only seem to be going from strength to strength, so I am filled with high hopes. One consistent feature of the band's songs are the often nonsenical lyrics, although there are always a few sincere ones mixed in there too. As per the norm with their record release schedule, they will also be touring the UK again in November and December, as well as their usual mixture of US dates. Electric Six are a very busy band, but are accomplished in just having fun and never letting the music slip, whatever else they're up to.
