10 Best Albums Still To Come In 2013
7. Panic! At The Disco - Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die! Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die! implies that this is how Panic! At The Disco see themselves (also that they reeeeally love exclamation marks). A new Panic! At The Disco album is almost a guilty pleasure: those of us who are no longer teenagers feel like maybe we should have outgrown their emo sound, but it is often so infectious that we can't help it. Let's look at Miss Jackson, the new single that was revealed on July 15th. It features a singer called Lolo, who opens the song in a worryingly chart-poppy way, but then the band kicks in... Although it then actually just sounds like new Fall Out Boy. They might as well be the same band. Brendan Urie sounds just like Patrick Stump and the slow four, backing vocal heavy and handclap featuring song is very reminiscent of FOB indeed. That doesn't have to be a bad thing; it's a good song in its own right, but it's a shame how much Miss Jackson sounds like the band's old label-mates on Fueled By Ramen, especially as they re-emerged into our collective memories first. Unfortunately, we still have nothing else to go on in terms of the new album, but even if they can just slightly recreate the magic of their first two albums then we can be happy. Ryan Ross' departure from the band in 2009 after being lead guitarist and songwriter obviously changed their sound a lot, but the rest of the band can create compelling music by themselves. Let's just wait and see; it could still be a good one. http://youtu.be/LUc_jXBD9DU Release date: 8 October
