10 Best British Classic Rock Bands Of All Time
7. Pink Floyd
When Pink Floyd started their career in the late 60's, they could have been easily passed off as just another psychedelic rock band permeating the rock scene. Though the band's roots lied in the more mind-expanding music brought on by LSD, their willingness to experiment turned them into one of the greatest prog bands to ever pick up instruments.
The band's start in the 60's with Syd Barrett showed a lot of promise, but it wasn't until the arrival of David Gilmour that their music began to take on its more iconic character. Once Roger Waters came into his own as a songwriter, the group began to test the boundaries of what was possible within the confines of a rock band.
During the band's 70's run, they created some of the most celebrated albums of the rock era like Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here. Many prog groups seemed to get lost in the shuffle due to their lack of hooks, but the way the band approached their songs was both simple and complex all at the same time. Pink Floyd may be considered a "thinking man's" rock band, but the more complicated portions of their work is done in a way where everyone can appreciate it.
