10 Best British Classic Rock Bands Of All Time
5. The Rolling Stones
Out of all the great bands to come out of the golden age of rock and roll, The Rolling Stones were the greatest straight ahead rock act of them all. When most bands were delving into pop, jazz, and Eastern styles, The Stones stayed true in becoming the definitive rock and roll band for all time.
That's not to say that the band didn't indulge in experimentation, like on their more psychedelic or disco inspired outings. At the same time, the Stones always seemed to be indebted to the blues and rock and roll acts that had shaped them since their upbringing on the streets of London. The way that Keith Richards played the guitar turned him into a human song machine, with the band's songs possessing more classic riffs than many other musicians get in 5 lifetimes.
On the other side of things, Mick Jagger is the epitome of the rock star frontman, whose magnetic stage presence and signature snarl became the basis for most rock singers going forward. With the band still going strong in their 5th decade, it seems that the Stones will continue to dominate the rock genre until there is no more rock to be had on this Earth.
