10 Best Canadian Rock Bands Of All Time
2. Rush
Sometimes good music is all about feeling and sincerity. It doesn’t matter how well you play, but rather the emotion you put into your art. Sometimes, though, good rock ‘n’ roll is all about combining three virtuoso maniacs with the best gear available, and tearing through songs about American history, fantasy, sci fi, and any other epic subject that fits nicely into a crazily complex arrangement, with plenty of room for riffs and solos.
Rush was a band that inspired extreme devotion. If you were a Rush megafan (and this is a band that has only megafans) there was plenty of business to sink your teeth into - expansive, overblown stage shows, a consistent but never overwhelming record release schedule, and songs that took you on a journey every single time.
You can argue over your favourite Rush era - the true prog stylings of Hemisphere, with its twin ridiculous suites, or the synth era (“Between the Wheels” from Grace Under Pressure being a particular highlight). They evolved and shifted, but they kept consistent the sense of fun and adventure.
With Neil Peart’s tragic passing, Rush are no more, but what a legacy they carved out.
