10 Best Canadian Rock Bands Of All Time

3. Broken Social Scene

Canada as a nation isn’t well known for its excess, but that doesn’t apply to indie juggernaut Broken Social Scene. The collective, led by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning, has a staggering list of members past and present, temporary and semi-permanent, and through the group’s off and on existence they’ve taken to the stage in double figures.

Their first, most prolific period in the early ‘00s saw them release three fantastic albums. Debut Feel Good Lost is somewhat dark and mysterious, but follow up You Forgot It In People remains their masterpiece. “KC Accidental” is a boisterous loud-quiet rocker, "Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl" is almost disturbingly beautiful with its mournful violins and affected vocals, and "Lover's Spit", as the title suggests, manages to be simultaneously gorgeous and quite disgusting.

Their albums released since are all very much worth listening to, particularly the self titled third, but for a collection of music that’s adventurous but airtight in its songwriting and structure, you can’t go wrong with their second.
