2. Gary Jules - Mad World
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4N3N1MlvVc4 Originally By: Tears For Fears One of the few instances where a case could definitely be made for the cover being better than the original, Gary Jules' cover of Mad World makes the song something to think about rather than just a catchy 80s pop composition. There is no doubt that Tears For Fears were a staple group of the 80s and produced some truly great songs, and Mad World is no exception, but the lyrics are so poignant and taut that the upbeat tempo of the original robs it of being a truly thought-provoking song. Gary Jules' approach to Mad World was one of an almost tragic feeling, allowing the listener to really reflect on the lyrics and emotionally connect with the song. And no, this cover isn't by R.E.M., we've checked.
