10 Best Covers Of Beach Boys Songs
3. In My Room – Linda Ronstadt
One of Brian Wilson's earliest songs, written in collaboration with Gary Usher, In My Room first appeared on The Beach Boys' 1963 album, Surfer Girl. It performed modestly upon initial release, reaching the top 30 in the US, but is another example of a song which has steadily grown in reputation, eventually earning a place in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.
In the liner notes for the 1990 album re-release, both Brian and Gary Usher explained the ethos behind the song, with Usher noting that “Brian was always saying that his room was his whole world.” Brian himself added: “I had a room and I thought of it as my kingdom. And I wrote that song, very definitely, that you're not afraid when you're in your room. It's absolutely true.”
Linda Ronstadt is another artist on this list who should need little introduction. With countless awards to her name, including an astonishing eleven Grammy's, and numerous gold and platinum-certified albums, she remains one of the greatest popular artists that America has ever produced.
As you might expect, Ronstadt does an incredible job of re-imagining this classic.
