10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 1980s

8. Iron Maiden - Iron Maiden

The Iron Maiden present on the band's debut album is not the Iron Maiden you might be familiar with.

For starters, there's no Bruce Dickinson on this album. Vocal duties are handled by Paul Di'Anno, the original singer for the band's first two studio releases. It also features the only Maiden appearance of guitarist Dennis Stratton, who sounds like his name came from an Iron Maiden member name generator.

None of that matters though, as this was the line-up that helped establish the group as major players in the world of metal, and there are plenty of great songs on here for fans to get stuck in to.

This heralded a new heavy metal sound, one that would take the world by storm as the decade wore on. The chugging bass and beautifully harmonised lead guitars that would become Maiden trademarks are all here, making for a very pleasant listening experience.

Well, as pleasant as an album with a giant skull man on the cover can be.

It might be a bit strange to not hear Bruce on the mic, but that shouldn't stop newer Maiden fans from going back and checking this one out.
