10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 1990s
3. Ten - Pearl Jam
Grunge dominated the 90s with five bands at the forefront of this new movement.
Both Nirvana and Soundgarden's debut album came out in the 80s, so that rules them out. Alice in Chains' Facelift was good and there's plenty to like about Stone Temple Pilots' Core.
However, neither of them are Ten.
In August 1991, Pearl Jam put out an utterly extraordinary collection of songs. You only have to wait until the second track to get to Even Flow, which is still regarded as one of the band's signature tune.
There's also the likes of Jeremy, Black, Alive, and Oceans to consider. Honestly, we could just name songs off this record, but that wouldn't make for a very entertaining read.
Ten captured the dark, dingy feelings of America's youth before they were even really a thing. Eddie Vedder's astonishing vocals caught people's ears from the very first note, as did the expertly-crafted and well-produced sounds of the music itself.
This album was vital to the rise of alternative rock over the next ten or so years, so just imagine where we would be today if it had never come along.
