10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 1990s
2. Definitely Maybe - Oasis
Suede might have helped start Britpop, but Oasis were one of the bands that kicked it into overdrive.
The genre's biggest success story (unless you're a family therapist) whined and droned their way onto the UK music scene in 1994. They took several attempts to record something they actually liked, eventually landing on an end result that would go on to be known as Definitely Maybe.
It was praised for its fresh new sound, which felt starkly different to the murky grunge music that was dominating rock at the time. This sounded like somebody had taken The Beatles and transported them forwards in time to a council estate in Manchester.
Now you mention it, maybe that's exactly what happened...
Songs like Supersonic, Live Forever, and Slide Away still stand out as stellar examples of Britpop and the album itself has permanently burned itself into the fabric of British music.
They might have never broken America, but Oasis smashed it so hard at home right from the get-go that maybe that doesn't matter.
Well, it probably matters if you're Noel Gallagher.
Think he's still mad about it today.
