10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 2000s

4. Fallen - Evanescence

As we saw with The Darkness earlier on, sometimes a band can peak with their very first album.

This is what happened to Evanescence with their debut release Fallen. However, when the songs are this good, who the hell cares?

Singer Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody met and began writing music together as teenagers in the mid-90s, but it wouldn't be until 2003 that any of it saw the light of day.

Fallen mixed the conventional heavy rock sounds of the time with Lee's angelic vocal style. A mezzo-soprano with a background in classical piano, she basically came along and made every other singer on the scene sound like they were gargling safety pins.

Lee's immensely powerful singing meant that the rest of the band could play harder around her. This led to the creation of some truly blistering music, including Going Under and Bring Me To Life.

Oh, and there's also the soul-shatteringly beautiful ballad My Immortal on this album. You know, just for fun.

Evanescence smashed it first time, which was bad news for any of their future projects, but great news for fans of excellent music.
