10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 2020s So Far
1. Wet Leg - Wet Leg
What makes a band cool can be tricky to define.
Sometimes a group just has that special something, an X-factor that puts them above everyone else in their class. Wet Leg have that something.
Hailing from the Isle of Wight (because somebody had to), this all-female duo had been the worst kept secret in British music for some time before their self-titled debut came out in 2022.
The whole album is drenched in this beautiful sense that Wet Leg don't give a hoot about anything. It's so detached that it's a miracle that it actually plays at all; a perfect metaphor for the island dwellers' isolation from the rest of the world.
The songs are really well written, filled with great lines, memorable lines, and enough bizarre innuendos to fill a substantial bingo card.
Wet Leg became an instant classic as soon as it hit shelves. In no time at all, the band were everyone's new favourite thing and they are now firmly entrenched in the indie rock scene.
If this is only a taster of the band have to offer, then this decade could belong to Wet Leg and their wonderfully weird ways.
