10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 2020s So Far
7. Coriky - Coriky
Fans of 90s post-punk will likely remember the band Fugazi.
Emerging from the Washington, D.C. area, Fugazi helped push forward the hardcore strain of rock and served as an inspiration to countless rock musicians throughout the decade.
They went on hiatus in 2003 and haven't come back since, but fear not! Lead singer Ian MacKaye launched his new band Coriky in 2020. Alongside former bandmate Joe Lally and The Evens' Amy Farina, MacKaye once again got behind the mic to bring his brand of fuzzy hard rock to the masses.
Instead of screaming about how unfair the world is, MacKaye's songs were lowkey digs at the state of modern affairs; a more mature approach to taking on the system. Nice to know someone in punk has heard of subtlty.
Their self-titled debut captured the spirit of Fugazi that had been sorely missed amongst the music community.
Numerous famous faces supported the record, including Laura Jane Grace from Against Me!, Nathan Ellis from The Casket Lottery, and The Homeless Gospel Choir.
All three instrumentalist are tight as hell on the album, which feels really earthy and grounded on the whole.
Fugazi might be dead, but long live Coriky.
