10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 2020s So Far
6. Who Are The Girls? - Nova Twins
For all the progress that has been made on the subject in recent years, the number of women in rock music is still disproportionately low. When you look at the numbers of women of colour, things are even worse.
That's why it was so refreshing when Nova Twins came along with their first album Who Are the Girls? in 2020.
Amy Love (who is of Iranian and Nigerian descent) and Georgia South (whose heritage is Jamaican and Australian) had been around for a number of years beforehand, but caught everyone's attention with their high energy, explosive full-length debut.
Who Are the Girls? borrowed elements of synth rock from the likes of The Prodigy and Enter Shikari, whilst also weaving in nu metal sounds and a punky vibe.
The group also did wonders when marketing themselves, establishing their look and style right from the get-go. They quickly became two of the fastest rising stars in British rock music and their presence has only increased since this album came out.
If you like your music heavy and your asthetic kinda creepy, then Nova Twins are the band for you.
