10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 2020s So Far

5. Beyond The Pale - Jarv Is

To call Jarvis Cocker a newbie would be unfair, but he did make his first record with his new band in 2020.

That band was called... Jarv Is.

Narcissist much?

Beyond the Pale is a seriously impressive undertaking. Dubbed an "alive album" by the band, it was put together via a series of live recordings from across multiple different dates and venues.

It took many years to stitch everything together and then the damn pandemic came along and delayed things even further! Oh, the tragedy!

In the end, Beyond the Pale finally saw the light of day and everyone was very happy that it did.

Critics absolutely drooled over this album, with many calling it Cocker's best work since his days in Pulp. It was labelled a late career renaissance by many, which definitely didn't make Jarvis feel self-conscious about his age at all.

Creating a high concept for an album is one thing, but to pull it off is another. Beyond the Pale excelled in presenting its songs in a unique manner and left plenty of people wanting more of this kind of music.

Well, unless they were part of Jarvis' sound engineering team.
