10 Best Debut Rock Albums Of The 21st Century

2. Ghost - Opus Eponymous

In all music, especially metal, it’s important to do something that makes you stand out from the crowd. This is a technique that has been mastered by names such as Alice Cooper, Tool and now Ghost. Sweden has a long history of producing generation defining musicians but, Ghost are like none that came before them, and it’s unlikely that there will ever be another band like them again.

Released in 2010, ‘Opus Eponymous’ became an instant hit in the metal community and in the years since, the image of Ghost has transcended the confines of metal music. Their demonic, anonymous and eerie image caught everyone’s attention, while the sickly heaviness of the record blew us away. Songs such as ‘Ritual’ and ‘Satan Prayer’ still rank amongst Ghost’s best tunes and resultantly feature in several of their live shows.

Ghost are now a Grammy winning act and are seen as one of the leading figures in the modern metal scene.
